2006 Chevrolet Aveo Clutch Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Disc, pressure plate, and pilot bearing on 2006 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: Start the clutch and Pressure Plate and Pilot Bearing replacement by removing the negative cable of the battery. Extract the transaxle before taking out each Pressure Plate bolt one by one while holding up the Pressure Plate during the last bolt's removal. Now extract the Clutch Disc from the Flywheel. Check the Clutch Disc visually for signs of wear or oil contamination as well as damaged torsion springs and warping; repair if needed. The technician should replace the Clutch Disc when necessary. Use a depth gauge to measure the Clutch Disc rivets from its surface. The disc requires replacement if the measurement falls below 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) standard at 1.2 mm (0.047 inch). Inspect the Clutch Disc runout with a dial gage for excessive 0.7 mm (0.028 inch) value before replacing the disc. Check the Pressure Plate for diaphragm spring finger wear and cracks as well as oil-related contamination before performing a replacement if necessary. Multidirectional grease applied to the Clutch Disc spline before fitting allows accurate placement of Pressure Plate and Clutch Disc onto the Flywheel using clutch center guide (DT 46551). During installation install Pressure Plate bolts using 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque setting for hydraulic clutches or 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) for cable clutches. Before reinstalling the transaxle and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable all clutch center guides (DT 46551) must be removed.
