2006 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rod bearing on 2006 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: First of all, the Cylinder Head along with the Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold should be removed, plus Oil Pan and oil suction pipe bolts need to be removed so that the oil suction pipe can be extracted. Drive the Piston to the bottom of the stroke, mark the connecting rod cap on position and after removing the connecting rod cap bolts remove the cap and lower connecting Rod Bearing. Second, remove the upper Piston connecting Rod Bearing and ream the cylinder wall. Carefully handle the Piston, as there is risk of being injured from old Piston rings afterwards remove the Piston and require the use of the Piston Ring expand tool to expand and remove the Piston rings. Remove the Piston pin, disconnecting the Piston and the connected rod, using the Piston pin remover/installer set (24086-B). For the installation, align the notch in the Piston and connecting rod, install the Piston pin guide, apply clean oil on the Piston pin, and slide it into the Piston and connecting rod assembly using the Piston pin remover/installer set (24086-B). Replacement of Piston rings (jobs needed) measuring the Piston rings gap using a feeler gauge, filing the excess if required. Check the (piston ring side clearance) and, if not up to the specs, replace any ring that does not meet. Mount the Piston oil rings and compression rings in the groove correctly, with the help of a Piston Ring expander that prevents over-expansion. Stagger the oil ring and compression ring gaps to the notch where the Piston, lubricate the cylinder wall, and Piston rings using clean engine oil, install the Piston with the help of the ring compressor and wood handle keeping the lower connecting rod end away from damage to the crankshaft journal. Install the connecting rod cap and bearings, and tighten the connecting Rod Bearing cap bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), followed by one 30 degrees and one 15 degrees turn bolt tightening using the angular torque gage (45059). Lastly, install the oil suction pipe and bolts, put them at a 10 nm (89 inch lbs.), put the Oil Pan back, and reattach the Cylinder Head with the Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold.
