2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The boot replacement process starts with vehicle suspension followed by front wheel removal. Thevehicle demands next step removal of the outer Tie Rod End followed by discarding the outer to inner tie rod jam nut. First disconnect the outer steering gear boot spring clamp before using cutters to slice the inner steering gear boot clamp so you can throw it away. The boot needs to be removed from the steering gear while also sliding off over the inner tie rod. Study all visible surfaces of the steering gear and inner tie rod thread shaft for debris and surface contaminants. During assembly install the inner clamp of the steering gear boot and dab the specified areas with service kit grease before letting the boot settle into the steering gear groove. Crank the boot over the inner tie rod prior to manually squeezing the steering gear using j 22610 keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to bind the inner boot clamp onto the steering gear housing. Begin by mounting the small spring clamp toward the outside of the inner Tie Rod End. Then secure the new outer to inner tie rod jam nut. Completed the installation by attaching the outer Tie Rod End before installing the wheel followed by toe adjustment.
