2006 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: To replace the Oil Pan, first detach the oil level indicator and tube, then the engine protection shield, then the engine oil is drained out. For rwd, take out the power steering gear; for 4 wd, the processes involved include unpacking the front of the propeller shaft, disconnecting the differential carrier assembly bush to frame bolts, yanking the differential carrier assembly down, securing the pinion yoke to keep it from turning, disengage the service slot plug, and remove thening the nuts supporting the fuel-hose/pipe bracket to the transmission. Lastly, take out the four lower transmission mounting bolts inserted on to the Oil Pan as well as, for 4 wheel drive, take out the power steering gear mounting bolts then pull the power steering gear down for access. Remove the Oil Pan bolts, then disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers from the Oil Pan. Install two bolts into the back up threaded holes in the rear of the oilpan to serve as jack screws and tighten them up evenly to free the oilpan from the engine block and remove the oilpan and the two bolts from the jack screw holes. Cut out any broken parts of the gasket that are broken, worn out, or posing a danger. When installing the Oil Pan, put a 5 .5 mm (0.22 inch) bead of sealer gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) in the marked areas and a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead in the marked areas , but make sure that the sealer does not contact the oil pump pipe and screen assembly. Position the Oil Pan against the engine block with the rear Oil Pan surface flush with of the rear surface on the block, and install the Oil Pan bolts tightening the side Oil Pan bolts with 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), the end Oil Pan bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Tie the engine wiring harness retainers to the Oil Pan, orient the power steering gear up to the frame assembly for 4wd, and thread the power steering mount bolts. Put on the four lower transmission mounting bolts and tighten to 50 n.m (37 ft. Lbs.), then install and tighten the fuel hose/pipe bracket bolted onto the transmission to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Position the service slot plug and the required components that for rwd will include the installation of the power steering gear and for 4wd will include installation of the differential carrier assembly to the frame and differential carrier assembly bushing to frame bolts tightened to 152 nm (112 ft. Lbs.) as well as front propeller shaft. Lastly, install the engine protection shield, the oil level indicator and tube and pour in the engine oil.
