How to replace the steering shaft in a standard column on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?

Standard column steering columns require you to disable sir before you can replace the Steering Column shaft by removing the Steering Wheel followed by the Ignition Switch and lock housing assembly and Steering Column from the vehicle. The linear shift assembly along with the lower shaft bearing assembly requires removal if needed. Moving on disconnect the Steering Shaft assembly from two components which are the Steering Column support assembly and the Steering Column jacket assembly. Start by inserting the Steering Shaft assembly into the Steering Column support assembly and then install the lower shaft bearing assembly. Reinstall the linear shift assembly first and guide the Steering Column back into its place in the vehicle. The procedure ends with the installation of the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Column followed by a sir system activation.
