2007 Chevrolet Colorado Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: Before inserting the new lower intermediate Steering Shaft start by setting the front wheels parallel and fix the Steering Column using the lock position. The Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) provides through-hole access to lock the Steering Column through the lower Steering Column trim cover. After raising and supporting the vehicle you will need to remove two bolts securing the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft and its plastic insert. Start by disconnecting the upper intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft then proceed to remove both the lower intermediate shaft-to-power steering gear input shaft pinch bolt before disconnecting the lower Steering Shaft from the power steering gear. Put the new lower intermediate shaft into position before you join it to the power steering gear. Secure the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear input shaft pinch bolt at a torque of 45 n.m (33 lb ft). Before bolting the upper intermediate shaft back into place make sure the plastic insert faces the flat surface on the lower intermediate shaft. Leverage the 23 n.m (17 lb ft) torque setting to tighten the lower intermediate shaft's pinch bolt onto the upper intermediate shaft. Place the plastic insert inside before bolting down followed by vehicle drop and removal of the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) from the access hole.
