2006 Chevrolet Equinox Brake Calipers Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace brake calipers on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Before replacing the brake caliper check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If the level stands at mid-range no fluid needs draining. When fluid exceeds this mark descend the level to the middle point. Before you work raise the vehicle and take out the tire and wheel components. Secure two wheel nuts by hand to the opposite wheel studs so that the rotor stays on the hub. Fasten a large c-clamp over the caliper body with ends against its rear surface and outer Brake Pad until the brake piston compresses enough to pass by the rotor. Use the c-clamp to compress the piston then take out the brake hose-to-caliper bolt followed by the brake hose. Discard its copper gaskets. After placing caps on the brake caliper and brake hose ports put the brake caliper guide pins through their brackets and fasten them securely using bolts. Check guide pin movement of the brake caliper and inspect the guide pin boots for proper function and condition by replacing all defective parts. Place high temperature silicone brake lubricant on brake caliper guide pins before inserting them into the caliper bracket for set up. Afterward, install the brake caliper to complete the task. Place the brake caliper guide pin bolts and secure them at 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.) torque then remove caps from both the brake caliper and brake hose openings. Put new copper gaskets on the brake hose before attaching them to the bolt and tightening to 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Begin by draining the brake fluid then unfastening the brake rotor nuts before adding the wheel set and lowering the vehicle. After switching off the engine apply just 2/3 of the brake pedal distance until it reaches firm resistance then hold it steady for 15 seconds before slowly applying the brake again. This ensures proper brake caliper piston and pad position.
