2006 Chevrolet Equinox Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: A Brake Pad replacement requires checking brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir before proceeding. Lift the car up for support before taking off the tire and wheel set. Secure 2 wheel nuts to wing nuts opposite wheel studs to attach the rotor to the hub securely. Position and tighten a large c-clamp over the brake caliper body until the piston squeezes through the brake rotor surface when placed over the back of the caliper and outboard pad area. Place heavy mechanic's wire behind the brake caliper to protect the hydraulic flexible hose while you disconnect the lower guide pin bolt and c-clamp. Clean both mating surfaces of the mounting bracket and remove brake pads and retainers from the caliper. Check if the brake caliper guide pins move freely while replacing damaged guide pin boots. Push the caliper piston all the way into the bore using a c-clamp before applying high temperature silicone lubricant to the caliper bracket pad hardware surfaces. Enter each Brake Pad into its position with wear sensor towards the brake rotor and secure the retainers. Push the brake caliper until it rests above the pads then screw in the lower brake caliper guide pin bolt until it reaches 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs. Torque). Place the tire and wheel back on the vehicle and put the vehicle down. Press the brake pedal about 2/3 of its travel distance with the engine off while moving it slowly. After 15 seconds push the brake pedal one more time to seat brake caliper pistons and pads correctly. Complete the brake system reservoir before finishing pad and rotor burning.
