How to replace the shift knob on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?

In order to fit the shift knob, one should use the parking brake, and put the key in the RUN position. Turn the gear lever to the low position. Take a small object to remove the trim ring and split it off the shift knob, revealing the retaining screw. Loose screw, then removal of knob and re-inserting of the knob with proper working.
