2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace battery cables on 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The replacement cables must have identical specifications regarding type and length as well as specific gauge. Start by detaching the negative Battery Cable then proceed to open the positive Battery Cable terminal lead cover. To start the procedure remove the positive Battery Cable terminal lead nut before detaching the terminal from the battery. The instrument panel (I/P) harness electrical connector must be disconnected from the battery current sensor as well as from the Battery Cable connector on the i/p harness electrical connector. To access the positive Battery Cable junction block lead nut along with its terminal from the bec you must first remove the bussed electrical center cover. Separate the ground wire bolt while repositioning its attached wire from the top rail. After which remove retaining clips (2, 3, and 4) from the front rail and fan shroud that secure the Battery Cable harness. The maintenance requires users to raise the vehicle and extract the Battery Cable harness retainers which secure the engine cradle and transaxle stud nut and Battery Cable ground which connects to the transaxle stud. Start by repositioning the positive Battery Cable boot by the Starter solenoid then remove the bat terminal nut from the Starter before unclipping the positive Battery Cable away from the Starter motor. The mechanic should unclip the positive battery connector at the transmission stud while lowering the automobile before pulling out both cables. The procedure for cable replacement includes removing the battery current sensor from the Battery Cable after cutting its securing materials and pressing the branches together and marking the initial sensor position. When putting the new Battery Cable in position install the battery current sensor by placing it on the cable first then secure it with new tie straps and electrical tape where the tape tab must face the opposite direction from the negative terminal. The positive and negative battery cables must be installed on the vehicle followed by vehicle support and positive Battery Cable connection to the Starter motor. Screw the bat terminal nut of the Starter solenoid by torquing it to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The Battery Cable positive boot should face the Starter solenoid while installing the clip to the transmission stud followed by attaching the ground cable to the transaxle stud before tightening the transaxle stud nut to 30 n.m (22 lb ft). Secure the Battery Cable harness retainers back onto the engine frame before lowering the vehicle to correctly install the ground wire using its bolt which must be tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Reinstall the positive Battery Cable terminal to the bec and install the junction block lead nut while torquing it to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The bec cover needs replacement while you connect the Battery Cable connector with the i/p harness electrical connector before attaching the i/p harness electrical connector to the battery current sensor. To finish up the installation process install the positive Battery Cable terminal to the battery while tightening its terminal lead nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Afterward, snap closed the positive Battery Cable terminal lead cover before connecting the negative Battery Cable.
