How to replace the rear axle shaft on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?

To replace the rear Axle Shaft, the vehicle has to be raised, the tire and wheel assembly also removed along with the brake caliper. Now remove the rear axle housing cover and its gasket, and undo the thrust block lock bolt and the thrust block. Push the flange of axle towards the Differential assembly and get the c-lock out of the button end of the Axle Shaft without rotating the same while performing the task so as to prevent misalignment of the gears which will be difficult for installing thrust block. After pulling out the Axle Shaft from the axle housing, insert the new Axle Shaft cautiously without cracking the Axle Shaft seal and making sure it doesn't spin once it is placed in the Differential assembly. Slide the Axle Shaft in until its groove is exposed, then install the c-lock on the button and pull the Axle Shaft flange out to seat the c-lock into the side gear of the Differential. Install the new thrust block and the new thrust lock bolt and tighten it with 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Put on the rear axle housing cover and gasket, then brake caliper and tire and wheel assembly. Lastly, you should add the correct seat of axle lubricant and put the vehicle down.
