How to replace the rear axle shaft on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?

The process starts by lifting the car and then taking off the tire wheel assembly and brake caliper. Begin by removing the rear axle housing cover along with its gasket before you remove the thrust block lock bolt and thrust block. When replacing an Axle Shaft begin with flange-to-Differential motion until you can remove the c-lock located on the Axle Shaft button end. Keep the shaft from rotating because misalignment issues will force you to spend more time installing the thrust block. When putting in the new Axle Shaft be cautious to maintain the Axle Shaft seal intact while keeping the shaft from rotating during its proper seat in the Differential assembly. After placing the Axle Shaft into the correct position with the groove revealed you should put the c-lock on the button end before stretching the Axle Shaft flange outward to lock the c-lock in the Differential side gear. Truly tighten the new thrust lock bolt secured inside the thrust block to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Start with installing the rear axle housing cover and gasket before putting back on the brake caliper and tire and wheel assembly. Fill the rear axle with the correct axle lubricant before lowering the vehicle.
