2006 Chevrolet SSR Flywheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine flywheel on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The first step in Flywheel replacement includes transmission and clutch assembly removal when the gearbox has clutch functionality. Use an opener to remove the Flywheel bolts before extracting the Flywheel to check for damage during the process. A locating pin for alignment should not be used because the new Flywheel moves toward the crankshaft through engine Flywheel bolt activation before seating on the crankshaft flange. The first step entails installing the Flywheel followed by the new Flywheel bolts which need threadlock gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent applied to their threads. Use a single order to tighten the engine Flywheel bolts starting at 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) followed by 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) up to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). After securing the Flywheel it is necessary to reassemble both the clutch if removed and then install the transmission.
