2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer A/C Orifice Tube Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Orifice Tube on a short wheel base on 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The first procedure when replacing an expansion (orifice) tube on a short wheel base is refrigerant recovery. Proceed by removing the accumulator together with the Coolant Reservoir. Before replacement begin by detaching the Evaporator tube nut from the Evaporator and taking out the Evaporator tube . Discard the o-ring seal before removing the nut from the Evaporator tube block fitting to separate Evaporator tubes (4,6) at that location. Remove the expansion tube from the Evaporator tube with the orifice tube remover (J 26549-E). The shorter screen end of the new expansion tube needs to fit inside the Evaporator tube before installation via the orifice tube remover (J 26549-E). Put on the new o-ring and join the Evaporator tubes (4,6) while torquing the Evaporator tube nut to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Secure the Evaporator tube with the nut then tightly fasten it at 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Reinstall the Coolant Reservoir along with the accumulator while performing refrigerant system recharging and checking fittings with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
