The replacement procedure for the evaporator tube requires refrigerant recovery as the first step. The technician must disconnect both the primary and secondary evaporator tubes which are attached to their respective pipings. Extract the evaporator tube nut from both the condenser and from the nuts (1,2) fastening the tube to the fender. The washer solvent container should be removed together with the coolant recovery tank. The orifice tube remover (J 26549-E) permits evaporator tube removal along with discarding the o-ring seal. To install the tube begin by applying new o-ring seals before connecting the evaporator tube to the evaporator unit while tightening the nut until it reaches 28 n.m (21 lb ft). First install the auxiliary evaporator tube onto the auxiliary piping before tightening its nut to 28 n.m (21 lb ft) while connecting the evaporator tube to the condenser and tightening its nut to 28 n.m (21 lb ft) as well. Reinstall the evaporator tube to the fender with nuts 1 and 2 while tightening them to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). The last step involves both evacuated procedure and system recharge before executing a filter leak test with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) on all components' fittings.
