2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Lines Using the J 45405 Brake Pipe Flaring Kit on 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The J 45405 Brake Pipe Flaring Kit (J 45405) is required to service brake pipes while using double-walled steel brake pipe prevents brake system failure. Check the replacement area of the brake pipe then free it from any retainers when necessary. Decide on a proper section point for cut and avoid both bends and mounting positions by also measuring the replacement pipe length that includes flare dimensions at 6.35 mm (0.250 inch) for 4.76 mm (3/16 inch) diameter pipes and 9.50 mm (0.374 inch) for 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) diameter pipes. 6.35 mm (0.250 inch) flares are required for 4.76 mm (3/16 inch) diameter pipes while 9.50 mm (0.374 inch) flares are needed for 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) diameter pipes. Follow the J 45405 instructions to cut the brake pipe exactly with the provided pipe cutter. Use the coating stripping tool's proper blade to remove nylon coating from the flaring area but avoid damaging the metal. The de-burring tool from J 45405 should be used to chamfer both brake pipe outer and inner diameters before installing tube nuts. First clear both the J 45405 and brake pipe from all particle debris before opening the clamping screw to insert the appropriate die set into the die cage. Insert the prepared pipe for flaring into the tool and secure the clamping screw. Use the appropriate forming mandrel followed by operating the lever of the J 45405 device to form the tube flare before performing the process again with the finishing cone. Check the flare's dimensions and shape by unscrewing the die clamping screw then continues with the inspection. Flares measure 6.92 mm (0.272 inch) for pipes of 4.76 mm (3/16 inch) diameter while measuring 8.92 mm (0.351 inch) for pipes of 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) diameter. Proceed to shape a new pipe with a suitable brake pipe bending tool if required and install it with suitable unions while securing it to retainers before bleeding the hydraulic brakes and probing for leaks by starting the engine and test applying the brakes with assistance.
