How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2006 GMC Savana 3500?

The replacement of front crankshaft oil seal requires initial removal of crankshaft balancer and crankshaft oil seal from the front cover. You should abstain from applying any lubrication to the oil seal sealing surface and you cannot use the existing crankshaft oil seal twice. Application of clean engine oil should begin with the outer edge of the oil seal followed by the front cover oil seal bore. Apply the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal to the tool J41478 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer guide. The J41478 threaded rod containing the nut, washer, guide and oil seal must be inserted into the crankshaft end where the tool helps-guide the oil seal installation into the cover bore. A wrench should hold the hex portion of the installer bolt while another wrench turns the installer nut clockwise to embed the seal completely into the cover bore. Use visual inspection to verify that the oil seal has been fully and equally inserted in the front cover bore after removing the J41478. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
