2006 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Transmission Oil Cooler for the 4L80-E/4L85-E automatic transmission on 2006 GMC Savana 3500?
A: Changing the transmission fluid oil cooler for 4l80-e/4l85-e automatic transmissions requires initial removal of the grille assembly followed by disconnecting the two lines from the oil cooler. Begin the next step by removing lines from their push clips on the oil cooler mounting bracket before lifting the vehicle. Start by removing the lower bolts securing the oil cooler mounting bracket and lift the vehicle to access the removal of the upper bolts. This allows for the complete removal of the oil cooler. Position the oil cooler in the vehicle first then install the upper bolts to the oil cooler bracket and torque them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The vehicle must be raised again to tighten the lower bolts on the oil cooler bracket to specifications while it remains at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Following this step, the vehicle needs to be lowered. After connecting the oil cooler lines to the oil cooler you must fasten the lines into push clips in the mounting bracket before installing the grille assembly.
