2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on a 4.3L engine on 2006 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: The replacement of a 4.3l engine Thermostat begins by emptying the cooling system fluid. Begin by unscrewing the air cleaner outlet duct clap at the mass airflow/intake air temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor followed by pcv hose removal and air cleaner adapter nut loosening. Leaning the air cleaner outlet duct upward lets the hinge clip release from the Throttle Body lip after which you should reposition the inlet hose clamp at the water outlet before hose removal. Start by taking out the water outlet studs then remove both the water outlet and finally the Thermostat. Both the water outlet and Intake Manifold need clean sealed surfaces before installing new o-ring seals. Remove and discard the old o-ring seal. The first step of installation involves installing a new o-ring seal onto the Thermostat which you should then follow with installation of the water outlet. Secure the water outlet studs with a torque of 25 nm (18 foot pounds) applying. You should return the inlet hose to its position on the water outlet while setting the inlet hose clamp into place. To install the duct you should align the hinge clip with the Throttle Body lip before lowering it down so the mounting stud passes through the hole. Then install the air cleaner adapter nut and the pcv hose. The maf/iat sensor needs a 4 nm (35 inch lbs.) torque value on its air cleaner outlet duct clamp before filling the cooling system and checking for any leaks.
