    A: The first step for SIR system replacement starts with disabling the SIR system. Begin sensor access by elevating window access before removing the door trim panel and sufficient water deflector to expose the side impact sensor . The safe removal of the sensor consists of first loosening its bolts then extracting it from the door with care. Cut off the front portion of the connector's position assurance component (CPA) near the side impact sensor connector. Complete the disconnection of the connector. After cleaning the mounting area, insert the new inflatable restraint side impact sensor into the correct door position. Attach the side impact sensor connector to install the CPA connection device. Tighten side impact sensor mounting bolts to a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in). The SIR system and the water deflector need to go back into place.
