2007 Buick LaCrosse Fan Motor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the electric cooling fan motor (LY7) on 2007 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The first step for replacing the electric cooling Fan Motor (LY7) requires safety precautions by keeping all hands and clothing and tools safely distant from the underhood electric fan since it could turn on even when the engine shuts down. Start by taking out the Fan Shroud from the vehicle while holding the Fan Blade stationary to keep the fan from rotating. The ge-47827 (GE-47827) socket enables users to rotate the Fan Motor drive plate against the arrow direction on the Fan Blade for disengagement. Secure the Fan Blade garbage then apply tape over every cooling Fan Motor opening to stop contaminants from entering. The rear motor rivet heads require drilling by using a 6.35 mm (0.25 in) drill bit before tapping them out of the Fan Shroud for motor and shroud removal. Complete any dry blowing operation then remove the tape that covered the cooling Fan Motor entry points. Position the new engine cooling Fan Motor to the Fan Shroud while inserting bolts from the front side before tightening cooling Fan Motor nuts to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Heat the new Fan Blade hub for at least 60 seconds in water that maintains a temperature of 49 degrees celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit) before installing it ensuring one minute without the blade rest period. Place the warmed Fan Blade directly onto the Fan Motor drive plate followed by avoiding rotation while using the ge-47827 (GE-47827) socket to turn the drive plate which should match the Fan Blade arrow direction until complete attachment. To complete the installation the cooling Fan Blade should receive a rotation test followed by reinstallation of the Fan Shroud assembly back to the vehicle.
