  A: The initial step in replacing the Shift Cable consists of removing the air cleaner assembly. First detach the flat-bladed tool from the Shift Cable while removing the retaining clip and then move up the vehicle. A large flat-bladed tool will disconnect the Shift Cable from the cable lever while pliers should be used to lower the cable retainers. Propel the vehicle down while disconnecting the cable from the Shift Cable bracket. Extract the knee bolster and finish the process by lowering the vehicle. After taking off the retaining clip from the Shift Cable you can disconnect the cable from the column control lever using a flat-bladed tool. Pull the cable out from the steering column bracket while moving it through the cowl opening. The Shift Cable should pass properly through the engine compartment before installation through the cowl area to reach the steering column bracket.
