    A: Replacing the Rack And Pinion inner Tie Rod on a vehicle requires using an inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) as a tool. Start your work by taking out the Rack and Pinion Boot. The gear should be placed in a vise where any adjustment to the steering gear preload must stay unchanged before moving the inner Tie Rod to prevent damage. Secure the rack by positioning the shock dampener onto the inner Tie Rod housing and pull it back into place. Start by applying a pipe wrench to the rack's location next to the inner Tie Rod housing then add a wrench to the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing and turn them counterclockwise to separate the rack from the housing. Follow the inner Tie Rod housing then inner Tie Rod removal steps once more. Old loctite(R) needs to be removed from both the rack thread and the inner Tie Rod thread only when present. Assemble the shock dampener on the rack after cleaning threads when necessary then apply loctite(R) 262 or an equivalent adhesive to the inner Tie Rod threads. Use a pipe wrench alongside the inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) to secure the inner Tie Rod to the rack at 100 n.m (74 lb ft) torque. Next apply the same procedure for the inner Tie Rod while properly staking the inner Tie Rod assembly housing into the male rack. Use a 0.25 mm gage to verify the stake does not fit between rack and housing stake then install the shock dampener onto inner Tie Rod housing until it reaches its highest point. Construct the final assembly of Rack and Pinion Boot.
