2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Begin the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable replacement process by straightening out the front wheels then centering the Steering Wheel. Disable the sir system. The first step requires uninstalling the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel before continuing with Steering Wheel and Steering Column Cover removal. Remove the sir coil harness connector and the headlamp/turn signal harness connector and the wiper/washer harness connector from the sir coil module assembly. A flat-bladed small tool should be used to gently separate the sir coil assembly's retaining tabs from the bottom steering column so you can slide it off. First remove both the headlamp/turn signal switch and wiper washer switch from the sir coil module assembly. First install the wiper washer switch followed by the headlamp/turn signal switch before using screws for installation. Once the sir coil maintains its center position replace the sir coil assembly onto the steering column by snapping the assembly into place. Attach the wiper/washer harness connector and the headlamp/turn signal harness connector and sir coil harness connector back to the sir coil module assembly. To complete the task enable the sir system after reinstalling the Steering Wheel then the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module and the steering column covers.
