2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the exhaust manifold for RPO L61 on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The replacement of rpo l61 Exhaust Manifold should start with intake manifold cover removal. An rpo nu3 vehicle requires removing two components from the exhaust process: remove the bracket nut from the air outlet hose/pipe and disconnect the quick connect fitting from the air check valve. Detach the air outlet hose/pipe bracket from the heat shield stud by removing its bolt (if applicable) then steel brace the bracket elsewhere. The initial procedure requires removal of the Exhaust Manifold heat shield studs followed by removing both studs together with the heat shield. The rpo mn5 requires workers to unfasten the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector position assurance (CPA) retainer followed by disconnecting the engine harness electrical connector from the ho2s before removing the ho2s clip which rests on top of the Thermostat Housing. Rpo m86 vehicles require disconnecting the engine harness electrical connector from the ho2s for a second time before disconnecting the ho2s itself along with the removal of the ho2s cpa retainer. Support the raised vehicle while maintaining the exhaust flex decoupler at 3 degrees or lower of bend. Erase the Exhaust Manifold nuts connecting the Catalytic Converter and then use downward and backward pressure to separate the exhaust pipe from the Exhaust Manifold. Lower the vehicle then take out the Exhaust Manifold nuts followed by the manifold itself while discarding both the gasket materials. All mating surfaces for the gasket must receive cleaning and inspection before you install the new Exhaust Manifold Gasket both on the studs and the Exhaust Manifold. Apply new Exhaust Manifold nuts while tightening them in their installation order to 14 n.m (10 lb ft). Place the Catalytic Converter on its Exhaust Manifold studs after installing a new gasket then fasten the nuts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). The threads of the ho2s require anti-seize compound either saturn p/n 21485279 or equivalent before installing the sensor and tightening it to 42 n.m (31 lb ft). According to rpo m86 requirements connect the engine harness electrical connector to the ho2s and install the ho2s clip to the Thermostat Housing as well as secure the ho2s cpa retainer. The engine harness electrical connector needs reattachment to the ho2s for rpo mn5 and then the ho2s clip should be installed at the Thermostat Housing. Reinstall the Exhaust Manifold heat shield and secure its two heat shield studs at 22 n.m (16 lb ft). Equipments with rpo nu3 require positioning the air hose/pipe followed by bracket installation onto the heat shield stud before moving to position the air outlet hose/pipe bracket at the Cylinder Head and tightening the bracket bolt to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Apply the air outlet hose/pipe quick connect fitting to the air check valve before tightening the air outlet hose/pipe bracket nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in). As your last step install the intake manifold cover.
