The shock absorber should go into a horizontal vise position having its shock absorber rod extending until fully out. Drive a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit through the shock absorber at the centerpunch location to drain gas or its mixtures with oil while controlling all escaping oil with shop towels. Drilling another hole at the centerpunch mark in the middle of the tube requires a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit to drain oil. Lay the shock absorber across a drain pan with holes facing downward after vise removal. Move the rod through the tube vertically to drain all the shock absorber oil while keeping the unit horizontal.
