Wear protective eye gear during the shock absorber drilling process while using the centerpunch to prevent both tube puncture and personal injury. Use the centerpunch to create a 10 mm (0.4 in) indentation starting from the bottom of the tube. Lie the shock absorber horizontally on a vise clamp while extending its shock absorber rod to its full length. Use a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit to pierce the centerpunch position while setting up an exhaust for gas or gas/oil mixture through the drilled hole. Protect against escaping oil by using shop towels. Using a centerpunch you should create an indent in the middle of the tube. Afterward drill a hole at this centerpunch spot on with a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit intended for oil release. Implement shop towels once again to control oil dispersal. Complete the drainage of shock absorber oil by holding the vise-free shock absorber horizontally above a drain pan so the holes are downwards during rod movements through the tube.
