When replacing the lid strut on the back compartment, you should open the lid carefully and put it on a platform for support. Keep other supports nearby to stop damage to yourself or others. Work with a flat blade tool to unlock the clips holding the rod from its ball studs at upper and lower positions of the lid assist setup. Take the rear compartment lid assist rod out of the vehicle. Push the rear compartment lid aid rod onto top and bottom ball studs by starting with the upper rod. Insert the rear compartment assist rod entirely onto the fixture before putting the compartment shut.
