• Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?

  A: To change the upper Intake Manifold, start by removing the fuel injectors sight shield, release the clamp from the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose connection, and the brake booster vacuum hose. Disconnect from the Intake Manifold. Next, detach both left side Spark Plug Wires from the retainers and spark plugs, then the ignition control module bracket with ignition control module and the Spark Plug Wires remains connected needs to be removed and set in place out of harm's way. Please detach the air cleaner intake duct, heater outlet pipe nut from the upper Intake Manifold, heater outlet pipe nuts and bolt from the throttle unit locating the heater outlet pipe out of the way without disconnecting the heater hoses. The following steps to take include the extraction of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) foul air hose. Loosen the bolt that attaches the generator closest to the intake without taking it off, then take off the generator brace nut and the generator brace. Remove the upper manifold intake bolts (4, 5), spark plug wire retainer , the upper Intake Manifold , and the upper Intake Manifold gaskets. If replacing upper Intake Manifold also unhook the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor EGR Valve, evaporative emissions (EVAP) purge solenoid valve, and Throttle Body, along with fuel injector sight shield studs. For installation lay the upper Intake Manifold gaskets onto lower Intake Manifold and secure it with fir tree retainers, then you install the upper Intake Manifold and the spark plug wire retainer. Apply threadlock gm p/n 12345382 (CA P/N 10953489) into the bolt threads and install upper Intake Manifold bolts (4, 5), and tighten these bolts to a torque of 25 n.m (1,8lb ft). If the upper #1 manifold was replaced apply the following: fuel injector sight shield studs, throttle body, evap purge solenoid valve, egr valve and MAP Sensor and the generator brace and its nut with a torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft). Tighten the generator attachment bolt nearest to the Intake Manifold to 25 n.m (18 lb ft), then fully insert and tighten the pcv foul air hose, egr pipe, and the heater outlet pipe to Throttle Body and upper Intake Manifold. Replace the heater outlet pipe nuts onto the Throttle Body, tighten the latter to 10 n.m (89 lb in), heater outlet pipe bolt onto the Throttle Body, tighten to 10 n.m (89 lb in), and heater outlet pipe nut to the upper Intake Manifold, tighten to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Lastly, install the air cleaner intake duct, the ignition control module bracket, join the left side Spark Plug Wires to the spark plugs and retainers, join the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to the Intake Manifold, install the clamp to the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose connection, and reinstall the fuel injector sight shield.
