2007 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to replace the piston, connecting rod, and bearing, and what are the steps involved in the process on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Three essential tools must be obtained before replacing the Piston and connecting rod and bearing: they consist of connecting rod guide pin (J 43953), Piston Ring compressor (J 43953), connecting rod guides (J-43966-1), and angle meter (J 45059). Start by taking away both the Oil Pan along with the Cylinder Head. Using a ridge reamer you should eliminate the ring ridge after placing a cloth on the Piston during Crankshaft rotation when the Piston rests at the bottom of its stroke. After bringing the Crankshaft to the top position on the stroke, extract the cloth along with cutting waste. The connecting rod assemblies require proper marking before reassembly since caps must be fitted back to their original rods. During disassembly you need to remove the connecting rod nuts followed by the cap while disposing of both the nuts and bolts. The extraction tools j 41742 and j-43966-1 should be used to remove the connecting rod and Piston from above the engine block. Apply boiling water together with detergent or lightly hone the cylinder bores until clean before using engine oil to swab them and a dry clean cloth for wiping. Apply engine oil to every surface of the Piston rings and Piston alongside the cylinder bore and bearing surfaces. Use j-43966-1 alongside j 43953 and j 41742 to slide the Piston into its original bore while giving the top of the Piston light taps with a wooden hammer handle. The installation of the Piston requires positioning the stamped mark to face forward while installing the engine part. Apply firm pressure on the j 43953 to the engine block until all Piston rings enter the cylinder bore before setting the connecting rod caps onto their respective connecting rods positioned according to their marked numbers. Use new connecting rod bolts with nuts that require first a 25 n.m (18 lb ft) passes to which you add 100 degrees using the j 45059 for the final tightening process. Use a feeler gauge to check the connecting rod side clearance which must fall between 0.070-0.370 mm (0.0027-0.0145 in). Reinstall the Cylinder Head together with the Oil Pan.
