2007 Chevrolet Impala Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The following tools help in removing and replacing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil: steering column anti rotation pin j 42640. Using the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) as your tool. Start by activating the sir system disable function then position the steering column lock and wheel at baseline zero degrees to protect the sir coil assembly from harm. First remove the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft before sticking out the tilt lever if your steering column has a tilting feature. Start by taking 2 torx(R) head screws off the lower trim cover before removing the cover followed by removing 2 torx(R) head screws from the upper trim cover to remove it. The first step is to detach the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness and then remove the retaining ring and air bag clock spring from the Steering Shaft. The old air bag clock spring needs disposal when making a coil replacement. Keep the new air bag clock spring assembly exactly in the center position during installation while you should maintain the centering tab on until your work completion. First position the air bag clock spring assembly to face the turn signal cancel cam assembly horn tower after which you should place the air bag clock spring onto the Steering Shaft assembly then deeply embed the retaining ring into its designated groove. Discard the centering tab which comes with the new air bag clock spring before installation. The installation requires upper trim cover attachment with 2 torx(R) head screws at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque followed by lower trim cover installation and attachment using 2 torx(R) head screws that should engage the tabs correctly. You must align the tilt lever handle on vehicles with tilt columns which must slide into the steering column until it secures in position. After finishing your installation secure the Steering Wheel to the Steering Shaft before enabling the sir system.
