• Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?

  A: You need to disconnect the negative Battery Cable before you start the upper Intake Manifold replacement process. Start by draining the cooling system before you uninstall the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube and the pcv foul air tube and the vacuum hose from the Intake Manifold. The heater inlet and outlet hose/pipe clamps need to be repositioned at the engine pipes before removing the heater inlet and outlet hoses/pipes from their positions at the engine pipes and Throttle Body studs. Separate the power connection to the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and disconnect the one for evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid before youremove the quick connect fitting from the chassis evap line and the electronic throttle control (ETC). Start by removing the air cleaner outlet duct followed by disconnection of left side Spark Plug Wires from spark plugs and Ignition Coil and resolve the Spark Plug wire retainer clips. You must remove the bolts and nuts holding the Throttle Body together along with the Throttle Body and gasket. Next extract the evap canister purge solenoid valve bolt and valve, and the MAP Sensor bracket bolts, and the MAP Sensor bracket with sensor, and finally the Ignition Coil bracket bolts. Start by taking out the Intake Manifold cover ball stud nut followed by upper Intake Manifold bolts and stud before you separate the upper Intake Manifold from the lower Intake Manifold and upper to lower Intake Manifold gaskets. After cleaning both mating surfaces install new gaskets for the upper to lower Intake Manifold before positioning the upper Intake Manifold onto its specified position on the lower Intake Manifold. After applying threadlock to the upper Intake Manifold bolts/stud threads, install the bolts and stud before tightening to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The Intake Manifold cover ball stud nut must be installed and torqued to 5 n.m (44 lb in) before installation of Ignition Coil bracket bolts using a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). First secure the evap canister purges solenoid valve into position before tightening the bolt to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Subsequently tighten MAP Sensor bracket bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) while installing the bracket and sensor together. Inspect the Throttle Body seal for damage followed by a replacement when needed. Apply threadlock to the Throttle Body bolts/studs threads before installing both the Throttle Body Gasket and Throttle Body. Complete with bolt assembly and nut tightening at 10 n.m (89 lb in). Link the left side Spark Plug Wires to their respective Ignition Coil and spark plugs while using retainer clips. Installation order includes air cleaner outlet duct then connecting evap canister purge solenoid electrical connector followed by evap canister purge solenoid electrical connector and finally etc electrical connector and MAP Sensor electrical connector . Begin hose/pipe placement then install heater inlet and outlet hoses/pipes before tightening clamp nuts onto Throttle Body studs to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Move the heater inlet and outlet hose/pipe clamps into position while you install the vacuum hose as well as both pcv tubes. Add fluid to the cooling system before reattaching the negative Battery Cable while placing the Intake Manifold cover in position.
