2007 Chevrolet Impala Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: A vehicle lift and support system serves as the starting point for intermediate Steering Shaft replacement operations. Disassemble the tire along with the wheel assembly while keeping front wheels aligned straight and setting the Steering Column to lock to avoid sir coil damage and misalignment. Fit the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) into the Steering Column's bottom section before you can access the lower pinch bolt through the intermediate Steering Shaft seal. Use a wrench to take out the lower pinch bolt from the power steering gear stub shaft after you disconnect its intermediate Steering Shaft. First lower the vehicle while you detach the left closeout panel. Access the upper pinch bolt on the intermediate Steering Shaft by moving the intermediate Steering Shaft seal into position before unscrewing the upper pinch bolt to disconnect it from the Steering Column. Position the intermediate Steering Shaft before installing the upper pinch bolt at the Steering Column and applying torque to 62 n.m (46 lb ft). Before assembly resume by raising and supporting the vehicle and then attach the intermediate Steering Shaft to its proper connection with the power steering gear stub shaft. Secure the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft through the lower pinch bolt maintaining a torque setting of 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Put the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the power steering gear after removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). Then reinstall the tire and wheel assembly and lower the vehicle before installing the left closeout panel.
