2007 Chevrolet Malibu Air Bag Clockspring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Disabling the sir system is mandatory before replacing either the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. The repair process begins with removing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module while continuing with Steering Wheel and steering column trim cover removal. The sir harness requires separation and the sir coil removal from the Steering Shaft for replacement. Discard the original sir coil if you need a new one. Install by steering wheels directly forward positioning the block tooth with the centering mark on race and upper shaft assembly at 12 o'clock. Prior to its installation the new sir coil demands pre-centering. It's essential to keep the centering tab in place until you finish the installation work. You should only center the sir coil when necessary. Follow these steps: position the new sir coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly followed by sir harness connection before removing the centering tab from the new sir coil. After installation of the steering column trim covers and Steering Wheel and inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module is complete you can enable the sir system.
