2007 GMC Canyon Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on 2007 GMC Canyon?
A: To replace the upper intermedite Steering Shaft, first make sure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead and the Steering Column is lock position. To lock the Steering Column, unfasten the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) in the access hole at the lower side of the Steering Column trim cover. Lifts and supports the vehicle and remove from the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Lower the vehicle and remove upper intermediate shaft to dash stud nuts from inside before removing the Steering Column. Observe the direction of the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt for reinstallation, as it must be installed at the same direction it was taken out. Next, you will be required to remove the upper intermediate shaft's pinch bolt and remove the upper intermediate shaft from the column. For install, first, install upper intermediate shaft to the column in such that pinch bolt will not contact within the Steering Column housing. Tighten uppthe upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt to 23n.m (17 lb ft) and then reinstall the Steering Column and the upper intermediate shaft to dash stud nuts should also be tightened to 23 n.m (17 lb ft). Lift the vehicle once more in order to attach the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt and tighten it to 23 n.m (17 lb ft); lower the vehicle and remove Steering Column lock pin (J 42640).
