How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on 2006 GMC Canyon?

The first step in upper intermediate Steering Shaft replacement requires setting front wheels straight ahead with Steering Column in lock position to stop sir coil assembly misalignment and damage. In order to lock the Steering Column insert the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) through the access hole of the lower trim cover. Lift the vehicle before you displace the upper intermediate shaft from its pinch bolt into the lower intermediate shaft. After lowering the vehicle inside the space remove each upper intermediate shaft dash stud nut before extracting the Steering Column. Record the direction of the pinch bolt in the upper intermediate shaft before using tools to remove both the pinch bolt and shaft from the column. When installing the upper intermediate shaft to the column position it where the pinch bolt originally was positioned to prevent housing contact. Mount the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt with 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) torque settings before installing the Steering Column and upper intermediate shaft to dash stud nuts using the same torque setting. The vehicle should be raised once more to connect the upper and lower intermediate shafts using their pinch bolt, then tighten this bolt to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). The final step is to remove the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) and lower the vehicle.
