How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on 2005 GMC Canyon?

Before starting upper intermediate Steering Shaft replacement secure vehicle wheels at a straight-ahead position and lock the Steering Column using the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640). You need to both lift the vehicle and provide support while also removing the pinch bolt which connects the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft. From inside the vehicle drive the vehicle lower before removing the upper intermediate shaft dash stud nuts for taking out the Steering Column. Label the upper intermediate shaft position relative to the pinch bolt on the Steering Column for future installation. Proceed with the pinch bolt removal while extracting the upper intermediate shaft out of the column. Begin the installation process by putting the upper intermediate shaft onto the column while maintaining the pinch bolt orientation from when it was taken out. First tighten the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) and then reattach both parts to dash stud nuts, finishing with a torque of 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Install the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt while the vehicle is in the raised position before tightening it to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) until the vehicle can be lowered for removal of the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640).
