First, remove the Water Pump, crankshaft balancer, and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts. Secondly, remove the front cover bolts and remove the front cover with gasket and discard the old gasket. Clean and inspect the engine front cover, making sure the surfaces of each gasket do not contain any oil or foreign materials. Care should be taken not to recycle the crankshaft oil seal or front cover gasket, and a sealant should not be applied to the front cover gasket unless indicated. Apply to the Oil Pan to engine block a 20mm (0.80 in) long 5 mm (0.20 in) bead of sealant. Replace the new front cover gasket and cover, tightening the front cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts but without overtightening. With the front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476), center the crankshaft front oil seal by aligning tapered legs with machined alignment surfaces on the front cover. Secure the Oil Pan to the front cover and engine front cover bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). When you remove the alignment tool, install a new crankshaft front oil seal and then re-install the Water Pump.
