    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Express 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To apply the engine front cover, first take off the Water Pump in that, the crankshaft balancer in that, the Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts, the front cover bolts then take it off. Then strip off the front cover and gasket then throw away the old gasket. Clean and check front cover of the engine. Upon installation, neither reuse the crankshaft oil seal nor front cover gasket, as well as do not apply sealant to the front cover gasket, unless stated. Make sure that all gasket surfaces are oil and foreign matter free, and that the crankshaft front oil seal is centered relative to the crankshaft, to avoid premature wear of leakage. Inspect the drain plug seal and plug and apply another 5 mm (0.20 in) bead of sealant 20 mm (0.80 in) long. Mount the new front cover gasket and cover, while tightening front cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts hand tight, any overtightening. To align the front cover correctly, use j 41476 (repair manual Fig.360 Procedure No. 8 Part A) and tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt until firm after aligning it. Secure the Oil Pan to front cover and engine front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Dismount j 41476 and fit a new crankshaft front oil seal prior to refitting the Water Pump.
