- Q: How to replace the exhaust pipe on a 3.6L engine on 2008 Buick LaCrosse?A: The first step to replace a 3.6l exhaust crossover pipe starts with left inner fender brace removal followed by air cleaner assembly removal and both left and right front engine mount struts removal. Tie down straps should secure the engine from rotating further forward. The replacement procedure starts with unfastening downpipe attaching nuts and the two left bank and front right bank crossover pipe nuts followed by raising the vehicle. Begin the process by taking off the left front tire and wheel and following it with removal of the left inner fender splash shield. The intermediate shaft must be detached from the steering gear before installing a jack stand beneath the left frame rail without loosening the right side frame to body bolts. A mechanic must detach the left two frame to body bolts to lower the frame before removing the fourth exhaust crossover pipe nut. You should detach the transmission fluid filler tube before taking out the crossover pipe. The crossover pipe requires installation first and crossover nuts need tightening to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). After reattaching the transmission fluid filler tube the vehicle needs to be raised through the use of a jack stand to enable left frame bolt installation. Reinstall the intermediate shaft to the steering gear as the first step followed by installation of left inner fender splash shield and left front tire and wheel. Fasten the two left bank and front right bank crossover pipe and downpipe attaching nuts before lowering the vehicle. You should start by taking off the tie down straps then move the engine into its proper position before mounting both front engine struts along with Throttle Body and air cleaner assembly and ending with the left inner fender brace.
