2008 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fuel Level Sensor in the fuel sender assembly (NT7) on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: The Fuel Level Sensor replacement (NT7) begins with releasing fuel system pressure using ch 48027 or without the tool before removing the rear compartment liner and the Fuel Level Sensor access hole cover bolts followed by the removal of the cover. Release the quick connect fitting for the fuel feed rear pipe and unplug the wiring harness electrical connectors between (1) and (2) of the Fuel Level Sensor. After relocating both fuel feed pipe and harness connectors users should lock the Fuel Level Sensor with j 45722 (Fuel Level Sensor Lock Ring Wrench) while ensuring the lock ring remains intact as users should avoid touching the Fuel Level Sensor through fuel pipes. Handle the Fuel Level Sensor assembly with care when it springs upward because the reservoir bucket contains fuel which should be disposed into an approved container. The j 45722 along with a break bar will let you loosen the lock ring by turning it counter-clockwise, then proceed to remove the lock ring and Fuel Level Sensor assembly. Lift the module up while checking for the Fuel Level Sensor float arm then tip it to open the tank and pour out fuel from the reservoir bucket. First remove the fuel pump module o-ring seal but keep it for inspection of the lock ring for warpage and damage; the lock ring requires replacement if its warpage exceeds 0.41 mm (0.016 in). Install new fuel pump module o-ring seal onto the fuel tank followed by tilting the Fuel Level Sensor to position the float arm into the tank before lowering the assembly while installing the module lock ring correctly. Perform the rotation of the lock ring clockwise with tool j 45722 until locked then eliminate the tool to rejoin both fuel feed pipe and harness connectors to their normal position. First connect the wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 2) of the Fuel Level Sensor followed by the negative Battery Cable and then the fuel feed rear pipe quick connect fitting. Check for leaks by first enabling the ignition with the engine turned off for two seconds followed by engine shutdown for ten seconds before turning on the ignition to inspect for any fluid seepage. To finish the process install the Fuel Level Sensor access hole cover while tightening its bolts to 2 n.m (18 lb in). Then replace the rear compartment liner followed by the intake manifold cover.
