2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the flex plate and replace the engine flywheel on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: The service and repair of the flex plate along with replacement of engine Flywheel needs tools including j 45059 angle meter (J 45059) and snap-on(TM) a144a Flywheel turner (A144A). The first step requires powertrain removal together with driveline support assembly extraction. The snap-on a144a Flywheel turner allows users to stop engine rotation when they uninstall engine Flywheel bolts and remove the engine Flywheel. The inspection procedure of the Flywheel should occur before applying any sealant to the bolts that anchor the Flywheel. Fasten the Flywheel onto the Crankshaft and connect the Flywheel mounting bolts. Use the snap-on a144a Flywheel turner to stop engine rotation before applying the torque of 30 n.m as the first step and then continuing with an additional 50 degrees using the j 45059 angle meter for the final bolt tightening. The last stage is to put back the powertrain, followed by the driveline support assembly.
