2008 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace spark plugs safely and effectively on 2008 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: While replacing the spark plugs, one should ensure that the engine is cool to avoid seizing and damage to the Cylinder Head threads. Clean the recess area of the Spark Plug, to prevent dirt from getting to the Cylinder Head, which may contaminate the threads and affect the proper seating of the new spark plugs. You can only use the designated spark plugs for the vehicle as when you use a hotter or colder plug, it may cause big damage to the engine. Start by switching off the ignition, loosening and removing the 4 bolts, and removing the engine cover. Next you want to unplug the Spark Plug Wires and take off the spark plugs from the engine. Check the gap of all the new and reconditioned spark plugs with a round wire feeler gauge, pre-set gaps may have changed before installation. Seat the spark plugs up to the specifications with the threads once again engaging smoothly with the Cylinder Head and seated home; use a thread chaser if it is needed to clean out the threads. Keep the recommended torque specifications closely in consideration, by tightening the spark plugs tightly, that is, 25 n.m (18 lb ft) in order to prevent overheating and thread damage. After installing the spark plugs, reconnect the Spark Plug Wires, replacing the engine cover back and fastening the 4 bolts, 3 n.m (31 lb in).
