2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: After engaging the parking brake and the control assembly being in neutral along with the transaxle manual shaft being in neutral too, to replace the park/neutral position switch, is the first step. Disengage the shift control cable from the lever of the transaxle, remove the electrical connector from the transaxle range switch and the lever nut and lever from the transaxle range switch. Then, remove the transaxle range switch bolts and take off the switch. For replacement of the old switch, ensure that the transaxle manual shaft is in neutral, position the flats of the transaxle shift shaft with flats of the transaxle range switch and install the switch. Loosely bolt the transaxle range switch bolts, insert the j 41545 park/neutral switch aligner, rotate the switch until the tool will drop into position. Tighten the transaxle range switch bolts to 20 n.m (15 lb ft), remove the alignment tool, and install the trs lever with nut, tighten nut to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). After adjustment of the switch, make sure the engine starts only when in park or neutral. In case, the process begins from any other position, adjust the switch to the process as well. Connect the transaxle range switch electrical connector and connect the shift control cable to the transaxle range switch lever so that it operates appropriately. To install the new switch, you will replicate the same initial steps to confirm the transaxle manual shaft is in neutral, align the flats, and install switch, also tight by 20 n.m (15 lb ft) bolts. Mount the transaxle range switch lever and its nut tightening the nut where it becomes 35 n.m (26 lb ft) and then the electric connector, last install the cable shift control to the switch lever transaxle then the correct functioning.
