2008 Chevrolet Colorado Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the alternator on 2008 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The first step for generator replacement requires users to disconnect the battery negative cable. You must remove the Drive Belt before you raise the vehicle for just enough clearance to reach the A/C Compressor through the wheelhouse. Start by removing the left front wheel followed by the left wheelhouse liner. Disconnect the A/C Compressor electrical connector from its bracket position without needing to evacuate the a/c refrigerant. Take off the A/C Compressor mounting bolts yet hold the upper mounting bolt so it stays connected to the A/C Compressor. Access to the generator output bat terminal requires vehicle lowering while moving the protective boot into position. Unscrew the generator output bat terminal nut to disconnect the generator lead from the generator. Break the generator wiring harness connector loose from the unit and use a torque wrench to remove all three generator mounting bolts. Illusions of the engine lift bracket must disappear for generator clearance and proceeding to shift the A/C Compressor into a forward position for generator extraction. The generator must be extracted from its engine slot. Place the generator on the engine's position before installing the engine lift bracket. Fasten the generator mounting bolts using a sequence starting from 50 n.m (37 lbft) torque. The generator lead requires connection to the generator while you apply 20 n.m of torque (15 lb ft) to secure the generator output bat terminal nut. The generator output bat terminal needs its protective boot pressed into place while the wiring harness connector gets connected to the generator. Position the A/C Compressor by raising the vehicle a final time before installing and tightening the compressor mounting bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Fasten the A/C Compressor electrical connector to the bracket following left wheelhouse liner and left front wheel reinstallation. After installing the Drive Belt proceed with reconnecting the battery negative cable while lowering the vehicle.
