2008 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The crankshaft rear oil seal replacement begins by taking out the engine Flywheel. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover with gentle force. Installation orientation of the oil seal requires attention because it has reverse-lip design with marked part number on its outside face. Check that the oil seal faces in the correct direction before you start installation. Also refrain from applying lubrication to either the internal crankshaft surface or the reused crankshaft rear oil seal. Clean engine oil should be applied to the outside diameter (OD) of both seals as well as the rear cover oil seal bore so the crankshaft surface stays free of oil contact. Screw the j 41479 cone and bolts onto the crankshaft rear end before tightening them just beyond finger-tight while avoiding excess torque. Screw the tapered cone into position on the engine block and drive the oil seal toward the rear cover bore. Drive the j 41479 threaded rod into the tapered cone until the tool makes contact with the oil seal before aligning the oil seal onto the tool. Use the tool's handle to rotate it clockwise until the seal completely enters the back cover bore and finds its resting position. You should now reinstall the engine Flywheel after removing the j 41479.
