2008 Chevrolet Corvette Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprocket on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start your Timing Chain replacement by removing the Oil Pump from the engine. You should first remove the camshaft sprocket bolt (206) before taking off the camshaft sprocket (205) and Timing Chain (208). First cut the bolts free (231) and Timing Chain Tensioner (232) apart. Use the j 41816-2 , j 41558 , bolts and j 8433 to disassemble the Crankshaft sprocket and then take off the Crankshaft sprocket (207) with its key. To install the key position it in the Crankshaft keyway and keep tapping until both ends match up completely. Place the Crankshaft sprocket (207) onto the Crankshaft alignment its key with sprocket keyway while fastening it completely to the Crankshaft flange by applying the j 41478 and j 41665 . Position the sprocket's alignment mark at 12 o'clock before compressing the Timing Chain Tensioner guide and installing the en 46330. Use the Timing Chain Tensioner (232) and bolts (231) to install at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Verify proper engagement of sprocket teeth while inspecting alignment marks located on both camshaft and Crankshaft sprockets. After mounting the camshaft sprocket (205), Timing Chain (208), and bolt (206), validate the correct timing by confirming both sprocket marks: camshaft at 6 o'clock and Crankshaft at 12 o'clock. Installation of en 46330 is followed by short-term attachment of automatic transmission flex plate or manual transmission Flywheel and bolts. The installation requires an m10-1.5 x 120 mm bolt and one m10-1.5 x 45 mm bolt for correct operation which should be tightened to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque using j 42386-a. Begin with a j 45059 torquing of the camshaft sprocket bolt to 75 n.m (55 lb ft) followed by an extra 50-degree turning with the tool. Remove the j 42386-a and bolts before you detach the automatic transmission flex plate or manual transmission Flywheel together with their bolts before reinstalling the Oil Pump.
