2007 Chevrolet Corvette Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2007 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To change the Timing Chain and sprockets, it is necessary to collect the necessary tools: j 8433 pulley puller (J 8433), j 41558 Crankshaft sprocket removal tool (J-41558), j-41665 Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer (J-41665), and j 41816-2 Crankshaft end protector (J-41816-2). First, remove the Oil Pump, then the bolts of the camshaft sprocket (206), and finally the camshaft sprocket (205) and the Timing Chain (208). Then take out bolts (231) and Timing Chain dampener (232). Use j 8433, j 41816-2, and j 41558 to disassemble the Crankshaft sprocket and perhaps remove sprocket key as well. Check and clean the Timing Chain and sprokeets before proceeding it for installation. Remove the key if removed and install it into Crankshaft keyway and tap 122 (key) until both ends are seated. Install the Crankshaft sprocket to the front of the Crankshaft, and make sure that the Crankshaft key is within the sprocket keyway, and use the j 41665 to seat the sprocket against the Crankshaft flange. Turn the Crankshaft sprocket to align its mark at 12 o'clock. Mount the Timing Chain dampener (232) and the bolts (231), while tightening them to 25 n.m (182b ft) with the head of the bolts lying flush or below the face of the guide (232). Properly position the camshaft sprocket onto locating pin and ensure that sprocket teeth interlocks with the Timing Chain and align the camshaft and Crankshaft sprockets timming markers, and the camshaft sprocket positioning timming marker at 6 o'clock. Fix the camshaft sprocket(205) and Timing Chain (208) at the necessary position so as to align the timing marks and tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts (206) to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Last, but not least, check the alignment of the camshaft and the Crankshaft sprocket timing marks (1, 2) prior to the Oil Pump's reinstallation.
