2006 Chevrolet Corvette Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The following toolkit enables Timing Chain and sprockets replacement: j 8433 pulley puller (J8433) combined with j 41558 Crankshaft sprocket remover (J41558) and j 41665 Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer (J41665) and j 41816-2 Crankshaft end protector (J41816-2). The successful completion of Timing Chain and sprocket replacement depends on four specific tools: j 8433 pulley puller (J8433), j 41558 Crankshaft sprocket remover (J41558), j 41665 Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer (J41665), and j 41816-2 Crankshaft end protector (J41816-2). Start by removing the Oil Pump followed by camera sprocket bolt (206) until the camera sprocket (205) and Timing Chain (208) can be taken out. Move onto the bolts (231) followed by the Timing Chain dampener (232). To remove the Crankshaft sprocket one must use j 8433, j 41816-2 and j 41558 tools. In case of need remove the Crankshaft sprocket key. Thorough cleaning procedures together with sprocket visual inspections should be completed. Install the Crankshaft key into its keyway only when the key needed removal before using a hammer or mallet to drive the key (122) through the keyway until it fully seats within both Crankshaft ends. Attach and position the Crankshaft sprocket in front of the Crankshaft while lining up the key in the Crankshaft with the keyway of the sprocket. Seal the sprocket against the Crankshaft flange by using j 41665. Position the Crankshaft sprocket to face its alignment mark when it stands at 12 o'clock. Position the Timing Chain dampener (232) and its bolts (231) with a 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque while maintaining the bolt heads at or below the face of the guide (232). Contruct the camshaft sprocket so its locating pin rests against the camshaft slot and the sprocket teeth match with the Timing Chain position. Adjust the camshaft and Crankshaft sprocket timing marks to place the camshaft sprocket alignment mark in the 6 o'clock position. Mount the camshaft sprocket (205) along with the Timing Chain (208) while making timing mark adjustments to the camshaft and Crankshaft sprockets. Then bolt (206) and torque the camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Check the alignment of the camshaft against the Crankshaft sprocket timing marks before placing the Oil Pump back into position.
