Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To replace the Camshaft first disassemble the engine assembly, crankshaft balancer, left Exhaust Manifold, right Exhaust Manifold Water Pump and Intake Manifold then the engine valley cover coolant air bleed pipe, left and right valve Rocker Arm covers valve rocker arms into the push rods and also to the left and right cylinder heads valve cup lifters. Next, undo the Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts and the front cover bolts and withdrawn the front cover with the gasket thrown out the old gasket. Turn the engine so that the timing marks are lined up, then untighten the sprocket bolts on the Camshaft and the Timing Chain from it, where it can be placed or lie on the crankshaft sprocket before the Camshaft is removed. For installation, first install the Camshaft, align the Camshaft sprocket alignment mark to 6 o'clock position. Mount the Camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain and then bolt the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Apply a bead of sealant gm p/n 12378190, or equivalent, 20mm (.8 inch) long, to the Oil Pan to engine block junction, and then install the front cover and a new gasket and snugging the front cover bolts and the Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts. Instead, install j 41476 front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476) and crankshaft balancer bolt to the front covering it so that the tapered legs of the j 41476 are in alignment with the machined alignment surfaces of the front covering; snug the crankshaft balancer bolt, avoid overtightening. Tighten Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts and engine front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and remove the j 41476. Replace the used crankshaft front oil seal with a new one, then the valve lifters, the right and left cylinder heads, the value rocker arms, the push rods, and the right and left valve Rocker Arm covers. Lastly, fix the coolant air bleed pipe, intake manifold, water pump, left and right exhaust manifolds, crankshaft balancer, and the engine assembly.
